Trip Planning Tips

When planning your trip to this area, you may want to take into account other events that are going on at this time such as the Navajo Nation Fair which is usually held September 3 - 7. Please check their website for the exact dates. It is the largest Indian fair in the Southwest. The fair usually features a PRCA rodeo, carnival, traditional Navajo song and dance, midway, arts and crafts sales, and fireworks. It's held about an hour from Canyon de Chelly and makes a great way to start or end your trip to the canyon area.

After you enjoy the canyon, you have a chance to see many Native American tribes from both North and South America at the world renowned Gallup Indian Ceremonial located 1.5 hours or 112 miles from the Canyon de Chelly national monument. The Gallup Indian Ceremonial dates are usually held in early August.

You may also want to take time to visit the Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park with it's famous landscapes before or after your canyon stay.

We look forward to meeting you and sharing our life in the Canyon and learning more about yours.
