As Lupita gets older, there is a need to create infrastructure at Sheep Camp so that visitors can comfortably visit her for years to come. Read below about the projects that we are working on now. Your donations enable long term sustainability and security for Footpath Journeys
My name is Alexa Young
Already raised: $6,000. Left to raise: $9,000
This project will finish the building on Lupita’s ancestral land, giving her a stable place to live and to teach Diné people and visitors. It will be the first modern structure in the area, powered by a generator with the long-term goal of adding solar. With no plumbing, all water must be hauled in from outside the region, often over an hour away when weather allows.
A permanent home will also provide a communal space for gathering, sharing traditions, and recording oral histories of Diné teachings.

Cabin Conversion:
For Interns and Guests to Stay Nearby
Left to raise: $25,000
The goal is to complete this cabin with a roof, windows, insulation, and basic furnishings so visitors can stay year-round. It will remain simple and off-grid, with generator power and no plumbing, yet it offers something rare: the chance to stay near Lupita on her ancestral land before entering Canyon de Chelly. As Lupita grows older, it becomes essential to make it easier for people to come to her, ensuring that Diné traditions, teachings, and stories can continue to be shared for generations.

We always need help with construction projects. Volunteers can receive free day hikes in exchange for working on buildings at Sheep Camp.
Consider signing up for one of our upcoming volunteer opportunities. On March 15th we will be working to complete the home at Sheep Camp. Later in June, we plan to work on completing the homestead cabin.
